The Challenge

The organisation operated a hybrid technology environment spanning on-premises infrastructure and multiple cloud platforms. Critical workloads depended on different infrastructure domains, creating challenges around availability, disaster recovery, monitoring, and operational consistency.

A failure in a server, network connection, data centre, cloud service, or application component could potentially affect business-critical services.

The organisation needed an infrastructure architecture that could absorb failures, recover quickly, and maintain critical business operations without depending on a single environment.

We designed a resilient hybrid infrastructure with uptime, recovery, and business continuity built into the architecture from the beginning.

  • Backup and disaster recovery strategies aligned with business-critical workloads and recovery objectives.

  • Network resilience through redundant connectivity and carefully designed network paths between on-premises and cloud environments.

  • Automated deployment and infrastructure management, enabling environments to be rebuilt or recovered consistently.

  • Centralised monitoring and observability across servers, applications, networks, containers, and cloud resources.

  • Defined RTO and RPO targets to ensure recovery strategies were aligned with actual business requirements.

From High Availability to Business Continuity

Rather than treating the cloud and on-premises environments as separate islands, the architecture established them as complementary parts of a resilient infrastructure strategy.

Critical workloads could be distributed according to their availability, performance, security, and recovery requirements, while backup and recovery mechanisms provided an additional layer of protection against infrastructure failure.

This meant that resilience was not dependent on a single technology or cloud provider.
